eCommerce Development Company in Delhi NCR: What to Expect and How to Choose
An eCommerce development company plans and builds your online store: platform choice, storefront, payments, shipping, tax invoices, search setup and handover. In India the build must also respect RBI card-data rules, consumer rules for e-commerce entities and data-protection law. Judge a partner on scope, ownership and support, not location. Mindrops is based in Netaji Subhash Place, New Delhi.

Key takeaways
- Put the store, domain, payment account and analytics in your own name, and give the developer access instead of ownership.
- Card numbers must never touch your server: use a gateway's hosted checkout or fields.
- Ask to place a test order on a live store the agency built, then ask what was hardest on that project.
- The platform fee is only one line of the running cost: payment fees, apps, shipping, returns and marketing add up alongside it.

If you are searching for an eCommerce development company in Delhi NCR, you will find a long list of agencies making similar promises. What separates them is rarely the pitch. It is what the proposal includes, how it handles Indian payment and consumer rules, who owns the store at the end, and what happens after launch. This guide explains each of those so you can compare proposals on substance.
Platform-by-platform comparisons live in separate guides, linked below, so this one stays on the buying decision.
Before you hire: is an online store the right move?
An online store removes the limits of shop hours and floor space, and it shows you what customers search, view and abandon. It also adds costs a physical shop does not have: payment fees, shipping and returns, marketing to bring traffic, and someone to pack orders and answer customers every day. The honest test is whether you can serve one more channel well. If you can, an online store is a sound addition for most product businesses, from apparel and electronics to groceries, beauty, home decor and handicrafts.
What an eCommerce development company actually builds
A complete store involves more than a design. Check that each of these is in the proposal, in writing.
- Platform choice. The right platform follows from your catalogue size, who will run the store, how much custom logic you need and your budget. See the short map below.
- Storefront design. Layout, navigation, product pages and checkout, designed for phones first, because many shoppers will browse and buy on one. Our UI/UX design team works on this part. A mobile app is a separate decision; see e-commerce app development.
- Catalogue setup. Categories, variants, images, prices and stock rules, plus import of your existing product data.
- Payments. A payment gateway with the methods your customers use, plus cash on delivery if you offer it. Razorpay and Paytm are two names common in India; compare each one's fees, settlement time, supported methods and plugin for your platform on its official page.
- Shipping and returns. Integration with your courier or aggregator, shipping rules, tracking messages and a returns flow.
- Tax invoices. GST-correct invoices for each order, produced by the platform, an app or your accounting system. On Shopify, for example, an invoicing app or service is needed (see our Shopify guide).
- Search and measurement. Clean URLs, page titles, structured data, analytics and conversion tracking, so SEO work can start from a sound base.
- Admin training and handover. You should be able to add products, process orders and run reports without calling the developer.
What Indian rules add to the build
This section reflects official sources as of October 2026 and is not legal advice. Confirm how it applies to your business with your adviser.
Card data. The Reserve Bank of India's Master Direction on payment aggregators, dated 15 September 2025, says in Annexure 1 that customer card credentials shall not be stored within the database or the server accessed by the merchant. For a store, that means using the gateway's hosted checkout or hosted card fields, so card numbers never reach your server. Treat a proposal that stores card numbers as a red flag.
Consumer rules. The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 define an e-commerce entity as any person who owns, operates or manages a digital or electronic platform for electronic commerce, according to the Press Information Bureau. A store you run yourself is, on its face, such a platform. The Rules require a grievance redressal mechanism and a grievance officer whose name, contact details and designation are shown on the platform. Complaints must be acknowledged within 48 hours and resolved within one month. Build a visible contact and complaints page, and a way to track complaints, into the store.
Personal data. The Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 were published in the Gazette on 13 November 2025. Most business obligations, including the notice, security and breach rules, take effect 18 months after publication, which is May 2027. As of October 2026 they are not yet in force, but a store built now will run under them. Practical consequences:
- Rule 3: the notice you show when asking for consent, at sign-up, checkout or newsletter subscription, must itemise the personal data collected and the purpose of each use, and withdrawing consent must be as easy as giving it.
- Rule 6: reasonable security safeguards, including access controls, logs and backups.
- Rule 7: a breach must be reported to affected customers and to the Data Protection Board, which means you need a breach plan and logs that show what happened.
- Customers can ask to access, correct or erase their data, and the Government's explainer says requests must be answered within ninety days, so the customer account area and admin need a way to handle them.
A short map of platform choices
This is a pointer, not a comparison. Each guide goes into costs, limits and trade-offs.
- Hosted store, quickest to launch: Shopify. Read WooCommerce vs Shopify and BigCommerce vs Shopify; our Shopify build is covered in Shopify website development in Delhi.
- Content-led store on WordPress: WooCommerce, again in the WooCommerce comparison.
- Large catalogue or complex B2B pricing: Magento. See Magento vs Shopify.
- Store tied tightly to inventory, accounting and CRM: an ERP-based store. See Odoo vs Shopify.
- Fully custom or headless: worth it when the storefront itself is your product, and the cost of building and maintaining it is part of the plan.
- A marketplace alongside your own store: see Shopify vs Amazon for the fee and data trade-offs.
Open-source carts such as OpenCart are also used. Judge any open-source platform by how actively it is maintained and how quickly security fixes ship.
What drives cost and timeline
No honest figure can be quoted without your details. These factors move both:
- Number of products, variants and how clean your product data is.
- How much of the design is custom rather than a configured theme.
- Integrations: payments, couriers, ERP or accounting, marketing and CRM tools.
- Custom features such as subscriptions, bundles, B2B price lists or multiple languages.
- Platform fees, apps and hosting, which continue after launch.
- Migration from an existing store, including redirects.
- How fast you supply product data, images and decisions.
Ask for a phased plan: a first launch with a limited catalogue and the essential integrations, then extensions.
How a store build runs
- Discovery and platform decision. Goals, catalogue, payment and shipping setup, and who runs the store.
- Prepare your data. A product sheet with SKUs, prices, images, weights and tax details is the main thing you can do to save time.
- Design and build. Prototypes of the key pages, then the storefront, integrations and admin.
- Test. Place test orders through every payment method, then test failed payments, returns and out-of-stock items.
- Launch and monitor. Redirects if you are migrating, analytics checked, and a person watching orders in the first days.
- Support and improve. Fix, measure and add features once real orders show where shoppers drop out.
Does being in Delhi NCR matter?
Less than agencies suggest. The platforms, payment gateways and couriers are national, and most of the work is done remotely. Location helps in specific ways: you can sit in one room to map how orders are picked and packed, review product photography in person, and meet without arranging travel. It does not improve code quality or the contract. Pick on evidence of fit, and treat proximity as a tiebreaker. If you run a shop, café or studio rather than an online store, our guide to what each kind of South Delhi business needs from a website covers that brief.
How to choose a partner
- A live store you can test. Ask for stores the team built, place a test order and check speed on a phone.
- A team you will actually work with. Ask who designs, who builds and who answers your questions.
- A written scope listing each item above, plus what is excluded.
- Ownership. Source code, store accounts and data are yours at the end.
- Handling of payments and personal data, in terms of the rules above.
- Support terms after launch: who responds, how fast and at what charge.
- Clear answers on cost, including recurring costs such as apps and hosting.
How Mindrops works on this
Mindrops builds online stores on Shopify (as a Shopify partner), Magento and WooCommerce, along with custom, headless and multi-vendor marketplace builds, with payment, ERP, CRM and logistics integrations. The client owns the source code, store accounts and infrastructure. Our head office is in Netaji Subhash Place, New Delhi, with a delivery team in Ghaziabad. The build pairs with SEO and performance advertising once the store is live. See our eCommerce development service, and get a quote with your catalogue size, platform preference and timeline; we respond as quickly as possible.
Conclusion
Choose an eCommerce development company by what it will deliver and leave you owning, not by how many platforms it lists. Put payments, consumer rules and personal data in the first conversation, ask to see a live store, and agree on support before the build starts.
