54,000+ GPS-verified traffic surveys, run on the system we built for Sharp Eye
Sharp Eye Traffic Surveys & Data Services, a traffic survey firm in Delhi, used Large Scale Surveys to run the origin–destination (OD) fieldwork for a transport study for the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). Mindrops designed and built the system in two months: a mobile survey app for enumerators and a live admin dashboard for supervisors.

At a glance
An origin–destination survey asks travellers where a trip started, where it ends, how they travel and why. NCRTC, a joint venture of the Government of India and participating states, needed this data for a regional transport study, and Sharp Eye ran the fieldwork. In three weeks of fieldwork, from 17 September to 9 October 2026, Sharp Eye’s enumerators completed 54,169 surveys on the system Mindrops built.
The challenge
Thousands of interviews a day, from a team spread across survey points, with proof of where each one happened.
Sharp Eye needed a system its field team could use on the phones they already carried, at roadsides and transit points, while a vehicle or passenger was briefly stopped. Supervisors needed to know that each interview took place at the assigned survey point, see progress by enumerator while fieldwork was still running, and hand clean, consistent data to the analysts building the study’s origin–destination matrices. The system had to be ready before fieldwork began and hold up under thousands of submissions a day.
The solution
Large Scale Surveys: enumerator login, survey form, GPS capture, submission, live dashboard and Excel export in one flow.
Enumerator logins
Each enumerator has an individual username and password, and a survey can only start after login, so every response is tied to a named person.
Mobile OD forms
Separate Road Side OD and PT/IPT OD questionnaires, built for one-handed use. They record location, direction, travel mode, origin, destination, trip purpose, frequency and vehicle occupancy. Every question is mandatory.
GPS on every survey
Each submission stores the phone’s high-accuracy latitude, longitude and accuracy radius, with clear prompts when location permission is denied or the signal is weak.
Secure submission
Authenticated sessions, hashed credentials and role-based access control. The start time, completion time and duration of every interview are recorded.
Live dashboard
Completed and in-progress totals, completions over time and a chart for every question, filtered by enumerator and date range, with a print layout for daily reporting.
Excel export
One-click workbooks with a column per question, enumerator details, IST timestamps and GPS coordinates, streamed in pages so very large exports don’t stall.

Project scope
Mindrops designed, built and deployed both sides of the system in two months, from August to September 2026.
Enumerator app
A mobile-first web app that runs in the phone’s browser: login, the survey form, GPS capture with permission and signal handling, and an immediate confirmation after each submission.
Admin panel
Multiple admins with roles, enumerator accounts, and questionnaires, question order, answer options and mandatory flags managed without a developer. Each survey record opens with all its answers and a map pin of where it was completed.
Dashboards and reporting
Live operations views for both survey types, question-level charts and recent free-text answers, filters by enumerator and date, and the Excel export analysts use for modelling.
Cloud deployment
A monorepo with GitHub Actions CI/CD to staging and production, with background jobs on BullMQ and Redis.
Results
Figures from the system’s own dashboard, for fieldwork from 17 September to 9 October 2026.
54,169 completed surveys
41,791 Road Side OD and 12,378 PT/IPT OD surveys, collected by 28 enumerators, each with a location, an accuracy radius and a timestamp.
4,000+ on the busiest day
Road Side OD peaked at 4,045 completed surveys in a single day and passed 3,000 on six of its 16 survey days.
No re-keying
Answers go from the enumerator’s phone to the database and out to Excel, so analysts get structured, consistent data for the origin–destination matrices.
Fieldwork managed as it happened
Supervisors could see each enumerator’s progress by day and confirm where surveys took place while the fieldwork was still running.

Technologies used
A React front end on a Node.js backend, with location from the phone’s browser and maps from OpenStreetMap.
